Dietary Guidelines for Siberian Cats

Welcome to Lazuli Siberian Cattery, where passion and dedication meet to create a haven for Neva Masquerade and Traditional Siberian cats. Our story is one of love for these magnificent felines and a commitment to preserving their unique beauty and characteristics.

Remember that individual cats may have unique dietary preferences and sensitivities, so it’s important to observe your Siberian cat’s reactions to different foods. If you notice any signs of digestive issues, allergies, or weight problems, consult with your veterinarian for guidance on adjusting their diet accordingly.

BENEFITS OF A PET RAW DIET

For cats, who are obligate carnivores, a high-protein diet is essential. In the wild, their natural prey primarily consists of rodents and birds, which not only provide ample protein but also a significant portion of the fluids needed by cats. This is why cats tend to consume minimal water. Raw food typically contains about 75% moisture content, whereas dry food hovers around 10%.

  • Enhanced Dental Health: A raw diet can contribute to improved dental hygiene for cats.

  • Healthier Coats and Reduced Shedding: Cats on a raw diet often exhibit shinier coats and experience less shedding or unusual hair loss.

  • Strengthened Immune System and Allergy Resistance: A raw diet can boost the immune system, making cats less susceptible to allergies.

  • Increased Energy and Weight Management: Overweight cats can benefit from increased energy levels and weight loss when fed a raw diet.

  • Reduced Hairballs: Improved digestion in cats on a raw diet helps hair pass through the intestines more easily, resulting in fewer hairballs.

  • Smaller and Less Odorous Feces: Due to the high absorption rate of the food consumed, cats on a raw diet tend to produce smaller and less smelly feces.

FEEDING SCHEDULE FOR CATS

Breakfast (Raw Food):

  • Offer a balanced raw food meal in the morning to provide essential nutrients. Ensure the raw food is appropriate for cats and includes meat, organs, and bones.

Lunch (Kibble – Royal Canin):

  • Mid-day snack, provide a small portion of Royal Canin kibble or any high-quality commercial cat food, to maintain their nutritional needs.

Supper (Raw Food):

  • In the evening, serve another portion of balanced raw food to keep their diet varied and nutritious.

Also, make sure your cat has access to fresh water at all times.

Remember that the feeding schedule and portion sizes may vary depending on your cat’s age, activity level, and health condition, so consult with your breeder or veterinarian for personalized guidance.

TRANSITIONING TO A RAW FOOD DIET FOR YOU CATS

For Eager Eaters:

  • Shift to scheduled feedings, offering food only at designated meal times, and promptly removing any uneaten portions within 30 minutes. This ensures your cat is hungry during meal times.
  • Begin with small portions of various raw foods during the morning meal to identify your cat’s preference.
  • For the evening meal, provide the chosen favorite food and leave it available for 2-3 hours.
  • Starting from day 2, adjust portion sizes to what your cat consumes within 30 minutes, avoiding overeating.
  • For Kibble Lovers and Picky Eaters:
  • Transition slowly over one to two weeks without your cat noticing the change:
  • Establish scheduled feedings, removing any uneaten food within 30 minutes.
  • Introduce 2-3 types of raw food, alongside a reduced portion of kibble or wet food. Observe your cat’s preference and gradually increase the proportion of raw food.
  • Over the next week, increase the raw food component to 50%, and by the second week, shift entirely to a raw food diet.
  • Offer small amounts of kibble as occasional treats between meals, but limit it to a couple of pellets, and ensure no kibble is left accessible to the cat.
  • Remember to monitor your cat’s transition and consult with a veterinarian if you encounter any concerns during the process.
